Arts Tourism Strategy – Tasmania

In the past year Tasmania has witnessed, what some would say, a ‘circuit breaker’ with the opening of the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Hobart. Tasmania is already recognised for pristine, remote and untamed wilderness, a wealth of world heritage sites, fresh and organic foods and cool climate wines; however, it is Tasmania’s arts sector that has turned the spotlight on Tasmania once again.

Maakan was appointed by Tourism Tasmania in 2011 to develop a three-year Arts Tourism Strategy 2012-2014. The strategy, published in 2012, provides a clear roadmap to position arts tourism as one of the four motivational pillars for visitors to Tasmania, along side nature, heritage and food & wine.
